We Can with Two Rules Wednesday (23)

Posted by Brenda Yoho

Each day is an opportunity to ________________.

I love to ask questions and to always look at various ways we can find solutions to problems we face. There are many problems which seem to always be part of our days. Can you think of issues which we talk about each year which we offer solutions, but the problems still seem to exist?

Share with us what makes your list.

How do we determine it is a problem for all? Who comes up with the solutions to solve the problems? Are the solutions tried?

Education is failing our children (Problem)-This is a broad stroke, but a statement made for decades. Do not blame Covid-19, this did not help a failing situation, but is not the only issue related to the education problem. What have been the solutions offered to solve the (Problem)?

Solutions offered over the past decades as possible solutions. Some were tried, some failed and some have only been talked about.

  1. Acknowledge and address overcrowding.
  2. Make funding schools a priority.
  3. Address the school-to-prison pipeline.
  4. Raise standards for teachers.
  5. Paying teachers more
  6. Giving schools more funding
  7. Removing distractions from the classroom
  8. Technology Usage in the classroom
  9. Teacher Training and Professional Development
  10. Cultural Activities and Diversity
  11. Motivational Guests
  12. Student Counseling
  13. School Maintenance to improve the looks and functions of the schools
  14. Parent-teacher Communication improved
  15. Activities Outside Classrooms to extend learning
  16. A positive culture for teaching and learning
  17. There is a nationwide college-gender gap, and surprisingly, we are not focusing on it.
  18. Education equity
  19. More of our schools need to consider year-round schooling.
  20. We need to consider how school security measures affect students or lack of security for schools?
  21. How to handle High School Drop outs?
  22. Homelessness support
  23. We are still using the teacher training methods of yesterday
  24. Parents and families are not engaged or involved
  25. Students missing school-improve attendance

The list can continue to grow as now we are facing a teacher shortage, soon a principal and superintendent shortage. Some leaders are suggesting to get rid of the Education Department. What is the solution?

I believe Lead with Two Rules will provide the foundation as we build back our education for all students.
