November 7-13

The daylight saving time, which the federal government first enacted during World War I to conserve coal, is not liked by everyone! States can determine if they want to follow the change, and we have 19 states that do not participate. Alabama, Georgia, Minnesota, Mississippi, Montana, Idaho, Louisiana, Ohio, South Carolina, Utah, Wyoming, Arkansas, Delaware, Maine, Oregon, Tennessee, Washington, Florida, and California.

So some of us are falling back in our time, some are remaining the same, and some are just thankful we have time to grab a cup of coffee before running out the door.

Teaching Forward

We cannot expect students to progress in their learning at the same time. As time falls back, we do not want our students to fall back on learning as we teach forward in helping to regain our footing from Covid-19. Self-paced learning is an option and opportunity to explore as we have students in classrooms at various levels.

Why would we choose to do self-paced learning? There are four reasons to try!

  • Learning is more efficient
  • Learning is more convenient
  • Learning is more effective
  • Learning allows more students to achieve mastery

Could we look at doing self-paced learning in our classrooms? Teachers become the go-to resource for students as they guide them through learning.

Do you know what kind of leader you are? Can you identify with a leadership style?

  • Democratic Leadership
  • Autocratic Leadership
  • Laissez-Faire Leadership
  • Transactional Leadership
  • Charismatic Leadership
  • Transformational Leadership
  • Servant Leadership
  • Bureaucratic Leadership
  • Instructional Leadership
  • Coaching Leadership
  • Solution-Focused Leadership

If you continue to search, you will find additional descriptions of leadership. One thing Simon Sinek states is about finding our why. In leadership, no matter the career, position our defining style; you will find this as the why in all of the leaders:

Our WHY: To inspire people to do the things that inspire them so that, together, each of us can change our world for the better.~Simon Sinek

Unlock your leadership by asking what you have in common with other leaders. Join in groups to discuss, engage in professional learning, and read as much as you can! There are many resources to pick from to help you continue to grow and assist you in doing the same for those you serve.

Please pick up a copy of Mastermind by Daniel Bauer and join him in making a “rukus”.

Too early to make a “ruckus,” I need more coffee! Grab your copy of this book while I get my coffee!
