Thoughts? Do you think about the thoughts you have?

“Experts estimate that the mind thinks between 60,000 – 80,000 thoughts a day. That’s an average of 2,500– 3,300 thoughts per hour. That’s incredible. Other experts estimate a smaller number of 50,000 thoughts per day, which means about 2,100 thoughts per hour. This too, is a great number of thoughts.”-Success Consciousness, How Many Thoughts Does Your Mind Think in One Hour?, by Remez Sasson

“Mental noise” is experienced by all of us, as our minds are full of thoughts. We have positive, bright, and innovative ideas to help us with our work. Then we have other thoughts that are negative, distracting, and useless to us. How can we control our thoughts?

Our brains are thinking continuously! We are taking in information continuously, even if it is essential or not. This information is stored in our minds and experiences; people and places trigger them back to our “active thoughts.” Emotions are often involved in many of our reactions to our thoughts.

I talk about making choices daily. Our Choice is part of taking the “mental noise” and “active thoughts” and turning them to work for us. How often have you started a project and talked yourself out of completing it because “you can't do it.”

Let’s work on our self-talk, “mental noise,” and “active thoughts.” It is vital to grasp the damage negative talk and thoughts can have on your health, physical, and mental abilities.

Silence the noise

  • Practice deep breathing relaxation. This helps to focus your mind on breathing and to calm down.
  • Utilize outside yoga resources, daily exercise, and a schedule to help find the time for breaks.
  • Take things slower when you can. Meditation is a great way to calm your mind. (Peace of Mind is our goal)
  • Practice replacement-when negative talk begins, replace it with positives.

This week we can look at more ways to turn down the volume of noise and turn up the calmness we need for clarity in our thoughts—many thoughts to share as well as you think about issues.
