Are humble hearts seen in the days we face? What does it mean to have a humble heart? Being honest with ourselves and others, and expressing our gratitude and respect is the humble way. “I have held many things in my hands, and I have lost them all; but whatever I have placed in God’s hands, that I still possess.”-Martin Luther
Everyone can Google to find a list for everything. If you were making a list of people in history demonstrated a humble heart, who would make your top five list? Those who demonstrate to others the importance of humility. I can provide examples of those on my list of humbled hearts.
Mahatma Gandhi: He said, 'one must become as humble as the dust before he can discover the truth.' As a prominent political figure, Gandhi became associated with folk heroes and was portrayed as a messiah figure. His terminology and concepts, and symbolism resonated in India. From the 1920s, Gandhi lived in a self-sufficient residential community. He ate simple vegetarian food. He fasted for long periods as part of his political protest and faith in self-purification. His birthday October 2, is commemorated as a national holiday in India. It is also the International Day of Nonviolence. Living a life of simplicity, standing for non-violence, and continually working to keep the lives of others as a priority, Gandhi continued to serve until he was assassinated.
Mother Teresa: Through her selfless and compassionate work, Mother Teresa physically helped thousands and inspired millions; her resilience to fulfill her calling and encourage peace inspired, brought hope, and gave others an individual to look to as a model of pure humility in service to others.
We all have individuals we know we can place on our list of those who provide us with the example of having a humble heart. My question is, do we have enough humble hearts today?
Do we have individuals helping spread humble hearts and increase the feelings we need to carry on the torch of humbleness?
