Each Saturday, I will post Saturday Solutions on my YouTube Channel. Be the Solution Daily is the name of my YouTube Channel and was the previous name of my blog website. We have transitioned over to my name as my official website now with the help of Jodi Neal and you can find her connection using the banner at the top of my website.

I missed making a post last Saturday. I know my friend Becky Robinson the author of Reach, Creating the biggest possible audience for your message, book or cause, says to “show up and be consistent.” I try hard to follow her guidance. I was just in shock last weekend and needed more time.

It is okay to not be okay. We will all of moments like that in our lives. It is when those moments turn into multiple days, weeks or months an alarm needs to go off to signal help. I lost a friend I have known for many years and it was just shocking to hear of her passing.

In my Solutions Saturday, I talk about the importance of watching, monitoring and looking for the warning signs of depression. The suicide rate for our youth is at an alarming level. I indicated I would be posting on my website some tips to utilize for recognizing depression. I will share some of those tips now and will be getting them uploaded on the resource page as soon as possible.

Loss of interest

Changes in appearance

Loss of appetite

Sleeping too much or too little

Feeling of sadness and hopelessness

Not wanting to do or enjoy fun things

Having difficulties in paying attention

Self-harm or self-destructive behavior

If you are a parent please communicate with your child daily and monitor as closely as you can. Communicate with your child’s school to ask if they notice any of these warning signs. Teachers/Schools, please do the same. It takes all of us working together to stop the high rates we are seeing in our youth with depression, anxiety, and suicide. There are many resources available to all of us to learn more about what we can do to help:

National Suicide Prevention Lifeline: 800-273-TALK (8255)
